Is it about time, or not?
So it’s about time, or is it? Major League Baseball is finally considering to put the instant replay into their league. In doing this they could change key calls like the one this year that decided who got the last playoff spot in the National League. The game was between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies. There was a questionable call at the end of the game when there was a play at the plate and the player clearly didn’t touch the plate but was called safe. They showed this replay multiple times and the more we saw it the more we realized that there was no way that he was safe and the more we realized how much of a mistake the umpire made. Adding the instant replay is a huge controversy and I personally am against adding it, for many reasons. The main reason is it would take away from what baseball really is, which is a judgment game and it is all about instinct. If they were too add this it would take away from having to have umpires because you could basically just say let’s let the play happen and then we will look at the video to see of he was out or not. Also, how would they decide when they could challenge? Would there be an additional umpire added just for instant replay because there is so much time in between plays that the coaches would have so much time to decide if they would want to challenge it or not. Also, how would they be told to challenge it? Would they put TV’s on the bench or would someone watching the game in the clubhouse have to come tell them. I think this would change the game of baseball way too much and it should not be added to the game of baseball.

Running up the score
According to http://espn.go.com the Kansas Jay Hawks won their football game 76-39, which is an absolute shootout. You don’t see that score everyday around the college football world. I think the last time that I saw a college football team score seventy points in one game was when the USC Trojans scored something like 72 points back when they one the national title in 2005. When should a team stop scoring so many points in a football game because in my opinion seventy points in one game is a little too much considering the fact that their opposing team had only scored 39. So, is the coach at fault here for running up the score a little too much or is the players fault. Maybe they didn’t try too run up the score that high and the fact that they are so good, because they are undefeated, they just tried not to score and did anyways. No one may never really know the reason besides the players and coaching staff of the team. But personally I think that the only person at fault here is the head coach himself. He has complete control of what happens in the game as far as his players go. I think that once you are by three or four scores you should slow down the pace of the game and start to run the ball instead of throwing the ball when you know you are about to win. If you score by just straight up running the ball just to milk the clock then so be it. But if you score more points just because you are passing the ball and you want to then I think that is totally wrong. So all in all yes there is a point when college football teams should stop running up the score because it will always come back to bite you if you don’t.

Ryan Loses Head Coaching Job
According to http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=474885&cc=5901 coach Greg Ryan of the women’s U.S. soccer team lost his job recently. He was fired even after having a record of 45-1-9, which is quite amazing and very hard to do in soccer. What was believed to be the main cause of the firing of coach Ryan was his decision in this years women’s World Cup semi-finals game to switch goalkeepers, while his current goalkeeper was doing a fine job and had only lost one game in the World Cup. In doing this his team lost the game and it was blamed on his decision to switch goalkeepers. Now in my opinion I don’t think that it was fare for them to fire him just because of one bad decision. As I said before he went 45-1-9 which is an unbelievable record and if you achieve that you should be kept around for many years to come. The U.S. Soccer president said that there was more than one reason as to why they fired coach Ryan but it can easily be believed that it was mainly for his decision to change the keeper. Not only did they lose to Brazil in the semi-final but they got crushed four to nothing which is a huge loss and that was said to be the main reason as to why he was fired. I still don’t think that he should have lost his job no matter how big the margin of loss was, it just doesn’t seem fair. Now if his record was much worse and he didn’t have as many wins then yes I think that he would have deserved to be fired, but the fact that he had such a great record means there is no way he should be fired.

Who Needs The Yankees Anyways
This past week the New York Yankees offered their manager Joe Torre a one year contract for five million dollars. Joe Torre didn’t like this offer at all so he tried to renegotiate for more money. He was content with the fact that it was for only one year but he wanted more money. The Yankees wouldn’t renegotiate and were going to stay with their offer, so Joe Torre said fine then I’m out. This was a huge shock to our society because Torre is the most well-known manager in all of baseball and no one expected this decision by him. He is the guy that coached their for twelve years and put the Yankees in the playoffs every year and he even won them multiple championships. So, did he make the right choice? I think that yes Joe Torre did make the right decision because during the playoffs there were rumors that if Joe Torre lost the series to the Indians then he would not be re-signed. So, I think that Torre is pretty much saying that fine if you don’t want me as your manager as you said earlier then fine I won’t come back. Now the Yankees have put themselves in between a rock and a hard place because now they have to find someone to replace Joe Torre the manager of all managers. Will Joe Torre continue to work as a manager in Major League Baseball, that question is still unanswered but I think he will because he considered coming back to the Yankees for money than he was initially offered.

True Confession
Recently Marion Jones a former Olympic Gold medalist for the United States track and field team admitted to using performance enhancing drugs when she set the record for most metals won by a female athlete in one Olympics. She admitted to this after she repeatedly said that she has never in the past used performance enhancing drugs. During her confession ad apology she was very emotional and even cried because she really felt like she had betrayed everyone including her teammates, fans, and family. She said that she was very sorry for the events that happened. So, the question is should we forgive Marion Jones for lying to us and then confessing to everyone about using these illegal drugs or should we be very upset. Personally I think that there should be no forgiveness to Marion Jones for multiple reasons. One she cheated the game of sports and to me that is something that is just wrong. If you can’t win the game without cheating then there is no reason that you should be playing in the first place because no one likes a cheater. Another reason I don’t think that I would forgive her is because she lied to the American people multiple times about using these performance enhancing drugs, and again no one likes a cheater at least I hope not. I mean if you think about it is that what we want to teach the kids of America that you can go ahead and cheat and lie a couple of times and we will forgive you. No, because at college if you cheat your out. So I think that there should be no forgiveness given to Marion Jones at all. She cheated and she lied and last time I checked two wrings don’t make a right.

Instant Replay In Baseball???
Did we ever think that this question would come upon us for America’s pastime the great game of baseball. I know that I certainly didn’t. When the Colorado Rockies “defeated” the San Diego Padres last earlier this week in a one game playoff to decide who would make the playoffs there was a questionable call at home plate. That questionable call was did he actually touch home plate. When looking at the replay I absolutely did not think he touched home plate and was sure that if the umpires were able to use instant replay they would have changed their mind. This does not mean that I am for using the instant replay because I am actually against using it in the MLB. It should not be used for the simple reason that baseball is a bang-bang type of sport and the umpire can see everything and he normally makes the right call. Now football is different because sometimes the referee can’t see everything like a ball touching the ground on a catch because they have less time to prepare for what it is going to happen. Where in baseball you have lots of time to prepare yourself for plays at the plate and to make sure you get the best view. I also think that it would destroy the tradition of the sport basically because it is America’s pastime, and for the most part it has been pretty much the same since it was created. So in inclusion I think that we should not use instant replay in baseball.

Black and White
Recently Donovan McNabb made some comments about black and white quarterbacks in the NFL and how white quarterbacks have it easier because they aren't criticised as much as the black quarterbacks after he had a terrible game. After the game everyone was asking him why he was having such a bad game and what was wrong. You could definitely tell something was wrong with his game he just didn't look the same. Then later that week he made comments on HBO about how white quarterbacks have it easier in the NFL than black quarterbacks and that black quarterbacks have higher expectations. According to http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3025308 Donovan said that black quarterbacks are under more pressure and that he meant every word of it. When i first heard this I just thought what the heck is he talking about, he is just saying this because he had an awful game. I mean come on he is sort of being rude and a jerk with comments like these. How would you feel if you were a white quarterback in the NFL. I am surprised that no one has said anything about this yet because i know that i certainly would if i was a quarterback in the NFL. What do you think, do you think this would upset you if you were a white quarterback in the NFL. What are your thoughts about this whole scandal? Maybe he is just saying all of this because Mike Vick is getting in to so much trouble and he just wants to take the pressure off of him. But in conclusion i think the whole thing was just ridiculous.
